Department of English

The English Department of Dayapuram Arts and Science College for Women believes in facilitating conversations among teachers and students of different Institutions while attempting to provide perspectives and exposure to students. The Department was introduced in the year 2011 and offered BA Functional English. The department was upgraded with MA English Language and Literature programme and BA English Language Literature was started and in the year 2020.

BA Functional English

Undergraduate degree in Functional English is a stream designed to enhance the professional communication and employability skills of students. It equips the students with the necessary knowledge, skills and understanding to apply English in academic, social and professional contexts and enables them to operate confidently and effectively in every aspect of life. The course ensures job opportunities in the fields of mass communication and journalism, visual communication, law, teaching, travel and tourism, business management and administration, editing, publishing and so on.

BA English Language and Literature

The programme concentrates on building a strong foundation in Literature and also to make students conversant with the contemporary strands of literary styles and theories. An insightful and comprehensive study of various genres of Literature like poetry, prose, drama, fiction etc. that equips the learner to identify, analyse, interpret and describe the critical ideas, values and themes that appear in literary and cultural texts and understand the way these ideas, values and themes inform and impact culture and society.

MA English Language and Literature

The MA English Language and Literature course aims at giving a wider exposure to students through subjects like Post-Colonial Literature, African Literature, British Literature, Literary theory and Criticism. The Study of English Language and its history also forms an integral part of the PG syllabus. The Dissertation submitted at the end of the course sharpens the analytical and critical thinking of the students. An MA in English may support the students in a variety of career choices like becoming an educator, content writer, copywriter, translator including the pursuit of a doctoral degree.
